Our Journey With Max

We've read her the story since before she could talk, so it's no surprise that Pepita would be crazy excited to see Where The Wild Things Are. It's not for all kids, I know, but she knows the story so well and loves the characters so much, that we took her to see the movie on opening weekend. Her second movie.

For the past two weeks now, this house has been all about Max. Actually, Max and Carol, KW and Daniel the Bull.

This past weekend, we took a trip to The Children's Bookstore in Roland Park to pick out a special book. And we found a good one! It's called Jeremy Draws a Monster and I think we read it 5 times that first day. But above a display of books hung stuffed characters from Where the Wild Things Are. Of course she saw them. And for once, I didn't tell her ,'This is something we can ask Santa for' or just, 'no'.

So we adopted a Max. And she does love him so.

This House Has Wheels

My dreams are so vivid that it's hard to get any real sleep. They're the kind of dreams that zonk all your energy and leave you exhausted when it's time to wake up.

I keep dreaming of a house. It's a house that doesn't make any sense. Who would put Formica counter tops in a bedroom, right? And I keep thinking there is a way we can make this house better. Make it ours.

The Miniature Travel Trailer Kit

And it hits me. I've been thinking about it all wrong. This is my Airstream dream.

At Least There Was Sun

Yesterday. There was sun yesterday and the day before. If I lived in the Pacific Northwest, I'd never get out of bed.

Before the rain, my husband took three hundred pictures of me modeling my scarves. This is something I've been asking him to help me with for a while now. Seeing as my camera is broken. Not to mention the logistical issues involved with acting as both model and photographer. No, this worked much better.

These scarves are sewn from strips of color-coordinated 100% organic cotton into a double layer of fabric. The scarf measures nearly 6 feet long and between 8" and 9" wide. It's long enough to wrap and knot and its tubular construction gives it a more sculptural drape and organic form.

This is one of the adult organic lightweight scarves. It's just like the originals, just not doubled. It's lighter and more economical. I like to wear them in the house... on days like today. Days when the only color in the outside world is gray and the cold and damp is inescapable.

Wild Thing

A movie changes everything. I was hoping to make a Pac-Man ghost costume this Halloween. It would be so easy. So perfect. I even have the old sheet to donate to the cause. But Pepita first insisted that she would be a Dora princess and that her Daddy would be a Diego princess. This past week, her attention turned to Cinderella. It's who all the other girls will be.

This was all before we took her to see Where the Wild Things Are. And I should have seen it coming.

This is Daniel the Bull. This is who Pepita wants to be for Halloween. This week. Because Max would've just been too easy.

Thirty-seven

This was all the candles I could find, in case you're wondering why there were only five. Pepita added the color. Just enough. How did we know Godfrey always wanted a Jackson Pollock cake? And the finger prints... the missing cake... that's how I knew she was finished decorating.

It was a good day. Happy birthday, husband!

Because with Milkshake, it's a party! We can't wait for Party in the Park on Saturday! We'll be there selling our tees and dresses and tunics and hats and children of Baltimore will get to totally rock out to one of the best kid's bands EVER! There will be lots of local crafters and artists like Barbie Levy, games, shows, tasty treats and more at Baltimore's newest fall festival. And the best thing of all is that it's for a really good cause.

The Price of Fashion

My favorite line in this short video is something like... Why pay someone ten bucks an hour when you can pay someone fifty cents a week? That and the fact that women are fired if they get pregnant.

Minimum wage in the United States is $7.25 an hour. The video above is talking about the sweatshops here. In our country.

Photo Booth Tuesday

My go-to camera has been broken for some time now. If I'm lucky I can get it to turn out Holga quality images. And Godfrey's fancy pants camera is too fancy for me to figure out how to use and makes me cuss. A lot. So in honor of my broken and inaccessable technology, I bring you Photo Booth Tuesday. This I can handle.

Pepita wanted to wear hear hair down this morning so she can shake it. And her sugar skull headband is from my friend Jen at the littlest bean. Day of the Dead is near!

Solids

One day I'll make some in my size. In the meantime, baby sizes will have to do. Solid every day lap tees sewn from organic cotton. And all organic is all good.
