If Only
I never thought I'd want more than one. My pregnancy with Pepita was a nightmare. It was a nightmare. If I wasn't on bed rest, I was on my knees with my head in a toilet. At one point I actually said, "People who have more than one kid are crazy." And I really meant it. Why would anyone want to do that to themselves again?
And that was just the selfish pity party part of the nightmare. Daily heart monitoring is scary. Listening to ultra sound technicians talking about umbilical cord anomalies is scary. Hearing that your baby isn't growing right from strangers in a hospital the size of a small city is fucking scary.
Pepita and her cousin Jeremy
I'm making tees right now that I'm actually considering putting aside... just in case. There is no reason to keep the tiny clothes. But holding this teeny rapper t-shirt (thank you Jen!) and then rocking my not so teeny anymore baby girl to sleep makes my uterus hurt just a little.
I keep thinking... if only we had a bigger house... if only I didn't have such a rotten case of Lyme... If only we could afford two school tuitions (and seriously, just the cost of one would blow your mind). If only.
The Lyme disease is the biggest problem. It's what knocked me flat out for months and months last year, it's likely why I ended up half dead in septic shock well before my daughter was even conceived. And I'm certain that Lyme is what complicated my pregnancy, and the reason my Pepita is truly a miracle baby. She wanted so badly to be here and she fought so hard to make it so.
I don't know what I'd do without my brother, and I keep meeting people and making friends who rely every day on their siblings. Every day. Pepita is just fine being an only child, but I worry about later... when she's an only adult.

Two heads, Four Hands
Right? If two heads are better than one, just imagine what four hands can do! This is collaboration Summer for me. With Jen Menkhaus, felt expert from the littlest bean, and Tina Seamonster, embroidery genius. Come fall, our work will be revealed in person at Crafty Bastards. As if you needed another reason to go to the most awesome craft fair in DC!
Embroidery by Tina Seamonster on our Flirtee!
Felt corsage by Jen Menkhaus on our all organic arm warmers!
I admit, the tee is mine, baby. I feel a little guilty making clothes for myself at the start of our busiest season, but when I saw Tina's newest bee related work, I couldn't wait to own one myself. And I love it. And when it gets a little chilly, there's a pair of turquoise arm warmers just waiting to go with it. Yeah.

Coming Soon!

This new print will be arriving soon! It's a perfect fit for our all-organic collection. So perfect, I'm inspired to work up some new all-organic designs. Because I don't have enough to do. Who do I ask for more hours in the day, please?

Hello
We knew this trip would be something. Pepita was in rare form before we even left. Before we packed even. I don't mean she was having fits or anything, just way wound up. Like someone gave her a Jolt cola wound up. And not sleeping. And very busy.
She felt it her duty to cover her great grandma's wheel chair with all 100 Hello Kitty stickers that we brought with us to New York.

I think she likes it.

The Baker
The butcher and the candlestick maker couldn't be with us today. Thank god.

Now, if you'll excuse me... it's cobbler time!

Water

Pepita and water. She might have been a mermaid in a past life. The thing I love most about playing with water is that it's just water. Go ahead. Make a mess. It'll just make you cleaner.

The super cool Pac-Man dress is from April Scott. April, we love this dress so much!

Point Reyes

They still have phone booths all over the place in this town. And the dime store (it didn't have dime store prices, but I know a Murphy's when I see one) still had products that, I swear, were made in 1963.

There are several beaches that you can hike to, but none of them are like east coast beaches. They're rocky and sand dune-y and cold and can be kind of dangerous if you get trapped by high tide. Or you fall and break your neck. They're stunning and strange, though, and that's what draws us.

Um, I guess the Lord of the Flies was here?

This is Sculpture beach. I don't need to explain why.
